Early Learning Programs
Our Y offers a variety of options for your child’s early development. Our programs are set up to assist you in the social, emotional, and cognitive development of your child. Our staff will strive to build a great foundation for your child in their early years.
Our YMCA offers Child Watch, Terrific Two’s and Tot Lot for young children ranging from 12 weeks to 5 years. Each of these programs will promote the skills necessary for a great foundation for your child’s early education.
Our team of staff are trained in CPR and first aid. They have undergone criminal and sexual offender background checks. Staff have also taken training to watch for signs of any abuse and are mandated reporters of such abuse.
Children enrolled into these programs will be expected to control their behaviors and not be disruptive to the class. If a child is disruptive, staff will explain to them that the behavior is not acceptable and the reason why will be given. If the behavior continues a verbal warning will be given. The next step if a child is not showing good behavior the child may be placed in a time out. The child will be placed in a time out location away from other children, where they can be supervised. The time-out length will be determined by the severity of the behavior and or the age of the child. No time-out will be longer than five minutes. Upon completion of the time-out staff will discuss the inappropriate behavior with the child. At the end of the day, staff will notify the parent/guardian of the behavior that led to the time-out. the notification will come as either verbal, hand written note or email.
Our goal here at the Streator Family YMCA is to give you and your family the best experience we can. If you should ever have any questions, concerns, or comments please contact our Youth and Family Director via email or phone. [email protected] or 815-672-2148
